What kind of factors need to be considered when it comes to choosing the perfect rug?

It all comes down to budget, size, application and functionality.

Budget is first and foremost. How much are you willing to spend on a rug? This will save you time.

Size is important and many get this wrong. If in doubt, go larger... a larger rug can be placed under the furniture and will make the room appear larger too.

Application covers a wide range of questions. A few would be: Do you have pets? Do you have children? Is it a high traffic area? Are there allergies to consider?

Functionality would cover questions of appearance and texture. Do you want a soft rug to lay on? Do you want low maintenance? Or are you wanting a timeless piece?

What are your top picks for the best living room rug styles in 2018?

My picks for living room styles in 2018 from our Bayliss collection would be Hamilton and Quarry.

Hamilton is a transitional rug style which looks great in many applications and adds subtle pattern without being dominant.

Quarry’s composition is tencel, which is commercially sound and great for most applications due to its durability and soft luster. We offer a great variety of colours and neutral options, as well as a full range of sizes including round.

What are some common mistakes to avoid when choosing a living room rug?

Size. More often than not, most people choose a size too small for their space. If in doubt, always go larger!
